Socialism and Bread Shortages: Venezuela Edition

What is it with command and control socialism and resultant bread (or rice) shortages?

Venezuela is now arresting bakers for waging “economic war” against the regime:

“In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad ‘economic war’ aimed at destabilizing the country.”

This is where grand dreams of a socialist utopia always result in slavery to the state, where those who do not do the impossible are labeled as saboteurs, wreckers, and kulaks.

And just what, specifically, did this “war” by the bakers consist of?

The sin of making “specialty items, like sweet rolls and croissants”. Further:

“The government said bakeries are only allowed to produce French bread and white loaves, or pan canilla, with government-imported flour.”

Meanwhile, the nomenklatura are living high on the hog.
