No one in the GOP wants to fix it. They want to co opt it and use it against their enemies (i.e. not fighting back with one arm tied around their back and instead using the "new rules"). They'll screw it up like the Hungarians in The Usual Suspects.

The smart thing to do it to change or abolish things so they can’t be used by your enemies. Politicians are anything but smart.
