“After Britain’s decision to leave the European Union, the rising popularity of anti-immigrant candidates like Geert Wilders in the Netherlands or far-right Marine Le Pen in France is worrying Europe’s political mainstream. Le Pen, who is running for the French presidency this spring, has promised to follow Britain’s lead.
“At the European Parliament, where elections are due in 2019, many say the need for action against hate speech, and strong sanctions for offenders, is long overdue.”
And just what form does this “action against hate speech” take?
Protecting the people of Europe from the debate of their own elected representatives in the EU Parliament:
“Press freedom organizations have raised concerns about censorship after Members of the European Parliament approved extraordinary measures to combat hate speech.
“MEPs granted the parliament’s president authority to pull the plug on live broadcasts of parliamentary debate in cases of racist speech or acts and to purge offending video or audio material from the online system.
“Critics say the rules are vaguely worded and could be manipulated or used as a tool of censorship.”
It is bad enough that the people of Europe can not freely discuss political matters, with “incorrect” opinions, but now they are shielded from the open debate in the rubber-stamp that is the European Union Parliament!
Can’t let the people be exposed to “incorrect” ideas, lest they dare to disagree with the pre-approved answers proffered by their Eurocratic overlords…
