Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.
The focus this time: Class Warfare!!1!
Not all is well is the Progressive utopia of San Francisco and the broader bay area. So-called “counter-culture” anarchists, hipsters, and other refuse have decided that their Progressive overlords aren’t all that spiffy when it is their neighborhood being “gentrified” and otherwise fundamentally transformed. Protesters stood outside the home of Google Ventures partner Kevin Rose with flyer’s of an indecent nature:
“The flyer claims to speak for the service workers who ‘serve them coffee, deliver them food, suck their c***s, watch their kids, and mop their floors’ and goes on to complain that most techies are ‘just like Kevin Rose,’ though again, it’s short on specific criticisms, aside from pointing out that techies make a lot of money.”
Oh, and these “anarchists” are demanding $3,000,000,000:
“To this end, we now make our first clear demand of Google. We demand that Google give three billion dollars to an anarchist organization of our choosing. This money will then be used to create autonomous, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist communities throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. In these communities, whether in San Francisco or in the woods, no one will ever have to pay rent and housing will be free. With this three billion from Google, we will solve the housing crisis in the Bay Area and prove to the world that an anarchist world is not only possible but in fact irrepressible. If given the chance, most humans will pursue a course towards increased freedom and greater liberty. As it stands, only people like Kevin Rose are given the opportunity to reshape their world, and look at what they do with those opportunities.”
Collectivism has always been a stunning success everywhere else it’s been tried…
Meanwhile, the AFL-CIO in Nevada has had a rare bout of sanity and decided to oppose a margins tax initiative that will be on the November ballot in Nevada. Despite the Nevada AFL-CIO initially favoring the initiative and helping to get the measure on the ballot, they have made a 180° turn, going so far as to state:
“The vote today in opposition to the margins tax initiative is not a vote against education… It is a vote against a flawed initiative that will cost many of our members their jobs and raise the cost of living on Nevadans on a fixed income and on citizens that are still struggling to make ends meet after years of a terrible recession.”
A “margins tax” that could impose a 100%+ tax on profits by imposing the tax on total income, as opposed to profit, can certainly put a damper on economic opportunities for the AFL-CIO’s members, and thus put a dent in the dues that they collect.
While the hipsters and hoi polloi of the working man are trying to stave off the consequences of their Progressive overlord’s whims, those same Progressive overlords are conspiring in a tiny conclave known as the “Democracy Alliance”:
“A group of wealthy liberal donors who helped bankroll the Center for American Progress and other major advocacy groups on the left is developing a new big-money strategy that could boost state-level Democratic candidates and mobilize core party voters.
“…
“While maintaining a low public profile, the alliance plays an influential role as the left’s central money hub, attracting political donors interested in more than simply making campaign contributions. Last week’s meeting at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago drew an array of Democratic powerbrokers eager to influence the donors’ thinking”
Well, you reap what you sow…
