Apotheosis of a Heroin Fiend

An actor on the show Glee, Cory Monteith, overdoes on heroin.  We are quite willing to be respectful to his kith and kin, nor do we have a problem with a respectful good-bye from his loved ones or his co-workers.

However, the apotheosis of a drug addict who overdosed as a paragon of humanity is not beyond criticism.  When people celebrate someone who “fell in with a bad crowd” and became a smack fiend as an example of a wonderful person, it becomes morally necessary to de-apotheosize that person.

It is quite acceptable to acknowledge the talents and positive qualities of someone, but to pretend that someone who overdosed on smack is an example of someone you should be like it beyond contempt.
