Big Brother In A Kilt

     Scotland has once again embraced its status as the incubator of totalitarian lunacy by threatening people for expressing doubleplusungood thoughts in their own home.   The so-called “Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Bill”, which already targets journalists and even theater performances that would, if it’s sponsor gets his way, eliminate the “dwelling defense” to protect a house hold from its own speech!

“Mr Yousaf said that there should be no ‘dwelling defence’ in his bill. He told the Scottish parliament’s justice committee that children, family and house guests must be protected from hate speech. He told MSPs: ‘Are we comfortable giving a defence to somebody whose behaviour is threatening or abusive which is intentionally stirring up hatred against, for example, Muslims? Are we saying that that is justified because that is in the home? … If your intention was to stir up hatred against Jews … then I think that deserves criminal sanction.’

“Mr Yousaf said theatre directors and journalists should not be exempt from the bill, to prevent activists stoking tensions under the cloak of dramatic licence or freedom of expression. He said: ‘We wouldn’t want to give the likes of Tommy Robinson a defence by saying that he’s “a blogger who writes for The Patriot Times so my reasonable defence is that I am a journalist”.’”

     That individuals are being singled out as examples of reasons to abridge the fundamental human rights of others is beyond obnoxious. That this bill could set children up as potential informants to the state to “rat out” their parents or their parents’ guests, is reminiscent of so many other totalitarian hellholes.

     Admittedly, this isn’t going full “Big Brother” because a person who lives alone could utter banned utterances if they are uttered quietly enough because said person isn’t being actively monitored 24.7… yet.

     Here is the sponsor, Mr. Yousaf, explaining that preventing people from expressing an opinion in private that might change another persons mind which could maybe contribute to someone committing a “hate crime” is worth eliminating private-practice freedom.

     If they could out thoughtcriminals, they would. It’s only a matter of time until they catch these nefarious exemplars of wrongthink slipping up and outing themselves as doubleplusungood.
