The social sciences can readily be abused by those who wish to push an agenda, and often such work is less “science” than bias confirmation. When doctors and other such professionals allow their reputation to be a servant for their political biases, it is particularly pernicious. The American Academy of Pediatrics has now gone on record that gay marriage is fabulous:
“The academy believes that a two-parent marriage is best equipped to provide that kind of environment. Their policy says that if a child has two gay parents who choose to marry, ‘it is in the best interests of their children that legal and social institutions allow and support them to do so.'”
Their insistence on two parents seems a bit odd. If the sex of the parent is irrelevant, than why is the number two so important? The basis of two stems from a child being the result of a sexual union between two persons, specifically a male and a female. What “scientific” basis is there for this duonormative value if the biological basis of reproduction via a man and a woman is irrelevant?
Despite the claims to the contrary, there is much evidence that having both a mother and a father are key to a stable family and a successful future. An Amici Curiæ submitted to the Supreme Court case Hollingsworth v. Perry, outlines this succinctly:
Amicus Brief in Hollingsworth v. Perry
The American Academy of Pediatrics is joined by other groups, none of which involve hard science “American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the American College of Nursing.” These are the elite guard – the storm troopers – of the War on Boys.
Certainly, these august organization claim that this is all Science! But then, both eugenics and phrenology were considered “settled science” in the not-too-distant past.
They go on to state that what is important is “nurturing children. We want what’s best for children.” What they fail to want to see is that the way men and women nurture and interact with their children are different, and that without both a mother and a father, children receive half of the parenting they deserve, no matter how much love and care they are given.
Perhaps Adam Carolla put it best:
