Quick Takes – Towards Genetically Engineered Catgirls: Artificial Wombs; A.I. Transistors; Biocomputer Brains

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Better living through technology?

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

For the mass production of genetically engineered catgirls to be feasible, artificial wombs might be necessary. Good thing we are well on our way to develop that!

Now, if we could only augment them with brain-like A.I. computer circuitry. Oh, now we can!

“Scientists have made a significant leap in the field of artificial intelligence. Researchers from Northwestern University, Boston College, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a new synaptic transistor that works just like the human brain. This advanced device, capable of both processing and storing information simultaneously, marks a notable shift from traditional machine-learning tasks to performing associative learning — similar to higher-level human cognition.

“This study introduces a device that operates effectively at room temperatures, a notable improvement over previous brain-like computing devices that required extremely cold conditions to keep their circuits from overheating. With its fast operation, low energy consumption, and ability to retain information without power, the new transistor is well-suited for real-world applications.”

Now, if only we could combine the brain with such artificial circuits. Wait, we can!

“In what seems like a scene from a science-fiction movie, scientists from Indiana University have constructed a hybrid biocomputer that combines laboratory-grown human brain tissue with traditional circuits. This innovative technology, known as Brainoware, has the potential to integrate into artificial intelligence (AI) systems and advance neuroscience research models of the human brain.

“Brainoware incorporates brain organoids, clusters of human cells that mimic organ tissue. Organoids are created from stem cells that have the ability to develop into various types of cells, including neurons similar to those found in the human brain.

“The goal of this research is to establish a connection between AI and organoids, as both systems rely on transmitting signals through interconnected nodes forming a neural network.”
