U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito recently spoke at the 2022 Religious Liberty Summit in Rome. Though news media highlighted his (justified) mocking of world leaders who bemoaned the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Alito spoke more generally on how rights and freedoms under the U.S. Constitution are understood differently from how rights and freedoms are discussed in the rest of the world, specifically the difference between negative rights and positive law.
His full speech is well worth listening to beyond the “foreign leaders” quip:
That this cause so much outrage just shows how on the nose Alito was.
