People who are used to freedom are adverse to seeing the end results of the loss of their freedom, when that loss is slow and there is still some (often superficial) freedom left. When the pots is heated slowly, the frog does not notice until it is too late.
However, those who have lived through tyrannical regimes can clearly see exactly how the loss of freedom will lead to tyranny, for they have themselves lived through the consequences.
Sen. Ted Cruz’s father recently gave a speech at FreedomWorks’ “Free the People” event where he draws a parallel between the “Hope and Change” politician of Cuba, and the “Hope and Change” politician of Chicago:
We have been warned of what lies ahead on the road we are traveling on. It is not too late to turn back, but perhaps soon, it will be.
