Diversity Is Now The Be All End All of Academia

What is important to a college in finding a professor?  For the humanities and qualitative social “sciences,” the only thing that matters to Cornell is “diversity.”

The only criteria, aside from having a Ph.D., they listed was a desire to consider “applications from members of underrepresented groups, those who have faced economic hardship, are first-generation college graduates, or work on topics related to these issues.”

And this isn’t just the standard “we welcome divers candidates” trope:

“Scott MacDonald, Cornell’s senior associate dean of arts and humanities, describes the position as a ‘target of opportunity’ appointment. Asked if it might be an attempt to hire an ethnically or socioeconomically diverse faculty member, he says, ‘there’s a background need in the college, which is part of the explanation.'”

Of course Cornell maintains at least some modicum of standards when it comes to the sciences or the quantitative pseudo/social-sciences, though the hiring in the sciences is already heavily biased against un-diverse men.

Sexual Privacy Goes Humpty Dumpty

The Progressive left, back-in-the-day, declared they were champions of sexual privacy and that the state had no business “in the bedroom.”  From this they built a legal cascade that goes from forcing the government to transport contraceptives to guaranteeing abortions.  That they have the government forcing private thirds parties to provide abortificients, subsidize organ harvesting, and even moral affirmation of what the Left deems sexually spiffy.

But the Progressive Left do not actually believe in sexual privacy.  They simply used the government to force these new mores on the people for public acceptance and affirmation, with the bizarre notion that a right to privacy necessarily means the state forces you to facilitate and celebrate someone else’s “private” acts.  If actual privacy when it comes to sexual matters stands in opposition to the Progressive’s utopian vision, than that real right of privacy is tossed aside.

In 2012, the City of Los Angeles banned the production of porn films unless condoms were used.  Now a measure will be on the statewide California ballot in 2016 to make it mandatory statewide.  But even that isn’t enough…

Now there is a demand that porn stars private medical records be made available for third party perusal:

“The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has subpoenaed medical records of porn performers dating back as far as 2007. That means even the records of stars who have retired or died will be examined.

“The Free Speech Coalition, a trade organization representing members of the porn industry, warned its membership in August of the subpoenas.

“A blog posted on the Free Speech Coalition’s website called the subpoenas ‘a clear HIPPA violation, and an affront to performer dignity.’

“The Coalition warned the opening of performers’ medical records would expose them to ‘hackers, stalkers, the government, and to the AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation) itself.’

“Porn stars angered by the subpoenas aimed their wrath, as they have every day of this two year-plus battle, at the head of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Michael Weinstein.

“‘These subpoenas are unconscionable, indecent and offensive. Performers deserve better than to have would be “porn czar” Michael Weinstein peeking through their blinds and snooping through their private medical records,’ the Free Speech Coalition claimed on its blog. ‘We call on Michael Weinstein to call off this noxious campaign, and for the board of AIDS Healthcare Foundation to #RemoveWeinstein.'”

We have gotten to that Humpty-Dumpty point where the right of privacy involves the government forcing private third parties to subsidize a person’s lifestyle, but excludes actually keeping a person’s medical records private.

Feminism is a Totalitarian Movement to Destroy Civilization as We Know It

The veritable Stacy McCain has summed exactly what Feminists are fighting for: The total destruction of the nuclear family.

This is not some vague insinuation, but an open declaration by Feminists.  Case in point, “edgy” and radical ways of destroying monogamy as presented by the screaming harpies over at “everyday feminism”… now in cartoon form!

Not a very solid basis for a family when everyone is basically just screwing and loving everyone else.  Of course, destroying the basis of a strong family with a mother and a father is the entire point of Feminism and Progressivism in general.  Methinks, though, that such “families” are more likely to help get Lamborghinis for Planned Parenthood employees than have kids, and even there only to validate their own feelz.

There’s A Violence Inherent In This Discussion

A vile, obnoxious, and slander-slinging Social Justice Warrior happily offended Dr. David Starkey in a debate of Englishness vs. Britishness.  Bullies like her usually get away with this because their targets don’t stand up to them.  This time, however, the target stood up against her.

At the end of it, the Social Justice Warrior cries: “There’s a violence inherent in this discussion.”  Note, however, that she begins to say “a violence inherent in the system.” and then checks herself.

Social Justice Warriors have become a Monty Python Skit.

Achieving Non-Violence Through Violence

Participants of bicyclists who “reclaim” the streets (by violating traffic laws) in San Francisco (of course) have demonstrated that those who embrace “non-violence” achieve such lofty goals by… violence.

This group of cycling hooligans, known as “Critical Mass” happily violated traffic laws and physically attacked a Zip Car, which is a ride sharing company.

The violent hooligan was ironically wearing a t-shirt with a quote that stated “Non-violence is our strength”.

Mark Steyn on the Death of Free Speech

Mark Steyn, a brave Canadian who has stood up against the censorship of his own government, recently spoke on Free Speech in the West at Christiansborg Castle, Denmark.

The full speech is below and well worth reading.

The Inequality of Flags

If a school decided to ban the LGBTQ&c. Rainbow H8 flag, the media and the hypocrites over at the ACLU would immediately screech about intolerance and wrap themselves up in the Bill of Rights.

Would they argue such arguments from a content neutral way?  If they did, would they believe it?

If a student had a rainbow flag patch on his or her backpack, the school would probably give them an award. If a student brought a Confederate patch on their backpack… then they go on lockdown.

If you can ban a flag, then you should be able to ban a flag.  But it’s kinda funny how these alleged supporters of civil liberties don’t have a problem with a flag, or any message or exercise of liberty, being banned if they disagree with its message.  For example, the Confederate Battle Flag (and Naval Jack):

“The debate over displaying the Confederate flag has made its way into school parking lots.

“Three students were called to the principal’s office at a Christiansburg, Virginia high school earlier this month and told to remove Confederate symbols from their vehicles. All complied. Two of the students told the Roanoke Times they were threatened with a three-day suspension.

“…

“Christiansburg is the lone school of the county’s four public high schools to have a parking contract requiring that ‘vehicles must be free from displaying any flags or symbols that are deemed offensive to any race, religion, ethnic group, or sexual orientation.'”

Try banning this one...

By that measure, could not the LGBTQ&c. Rainbow H8 flag be banned because it is offensive to many Christians, or even more so since it is offensive to other religions as well, including Islam?

Common Core Economics: All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state

Apparently elementary school children are being taught that jobs are created by government programs, with no other source of job creation being even considered.

Modern Day Progressives, doing the job that neither the Stalinists nor National Socialists could…

Separation of Mosque and State Redux

First, children were required to accept the Shahada in a school assignment.  Now, police officer can be forced to attend and spend money on Islamic shindigs:

“A panel of federal judges in Denver, in an opinion written by Judge Harris Hartz, found that it is perfectly appropriate for a police chief to order subordinates to attend an Islamic mosque where Muslims “discussed Islamic beliefs, Muhammad, Mecca, and why and how Muslims pray” in addition to encouraging officers ‘to buy’ Islamic books and pamphlets that were for sale.”

Would this have happened if the officer was compelled to attend a Christian church, or if a Muslim was required to attend a Synagogue?

     Of course not.
