Abortion Wrongthink Verboten

Funny how those who claim to support a “woman’s right to choose” are the ones who are most ardent on silencing voices that don’t wholeheartedly agree…

In a Canadian school, a teacher was fired for stating he personally did not support abortion, even though it was protected by the law.

“The 44-year-old teacher, who has asked that he not be identified to protect what’s left of his career, was teaching ‘the criminal law unit, a lesson on vice, ethics, morality and the law’ to his small class in the Vancouver-area school in late November.

“‘I was working my way through examples of how some people’s sense of personal ethics was more liberal than the letter of the law,’ he said in an email.

“For example, he told them, many people might roll through a stop sign on a deserted country road, deeming it morally acceptable, even if unlawful.

“In other words, he said, in a pluralistic democracy, there’s often “a difference between people’s private morality and the law.

“‘I find abortion to be wrong,’ he said, as another illustration of this gap, ‘but the law is often different from our personal opinions.’

“That was it, the teacher said. ‘It was just a quick exemplar, nothing more. And we moved on.’

“A little later, the class had a five-minute break, and when it resumed, several students didn’t return, among them a popular young woman who had gone to an administrator to complain that what the teacher said had ‘triggered’ her such that she felt “unsafe” and that, in any case, he had no right to an opinion on the subject of abortion because he was a man.”

Punishing any wrongthink concerning abortion goes even further in France, where a commercial from Project Rachel, a “compassionate pro-life project that aids women overcome the grief and guilt some experience from having had an abortion” was banned.

Obama Awards Himself A Participation Trophy

With even the Nobel committee regretting giving Obama an award, Obama, after eight long years of proving to the world just what he truly is, has now had to settle for a participation trophy… which he has awarded himself:

“The president was also honored at a farewell ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, a short drive from the White House.

“…

“Prior to his remarks, Defense Secretary Ash Carter presented Obama with the Medal of Distinguished Public Service as a token of appreciation for his service as commander in chief.”

The Resistance: Because Once Again Dissent Is Considered Patriotic

When George W. Bush was President, dissent was the highest for of Patriotism. After Barack Obama was elected, dissent quickly became not only treasonous, but also racist. Now that the President will soon again be affiliated with the doubleplusungood Republicans, not only is dissent patriotic again, but outright “resistance” is praised by all the Leftist virtue signalers out there.

“Even though the election was over a month ago, and Hillary Clinton will never be president, the lib/prog sense of outragey outrage has not subsided. In fact, it’s even greater now than it was originally. So much so that there’s been some loose talk on the left of ‘resistance’ ( *snort* ) and even “revolution” ( *guffaw* ), which raises some obvious questions about how they intend to pull off an armed revolution. After all, the military is in the hands of those the liberals consider to be their enemies. Also, U.S. armed forces tend to skew conservative, so a military intervention or coup would be a non-starter. And then there’s the pesky fact that the overwhelming majority of private gun owners undoubtedly voted for Trump.

“So, obviously, the progressive plan for ‘resistance’ (excuse me, #TheResistance) has not been well thought out. I think it consists mainly of Keith Olbermann shouting at the wall from his basement redoubt at GQ Magazine.”

This insanity not only validates those who reluctently voted for Trump, but helps bring many of the #NeverTrump crowd over to at least be willing to work with Trump. As the veritable David Burge noted:

Or, to put it in a more blunt, and meme-friendly way:

Doctors Saved (For Now) From Social Justice Edict

Last year, the Obama administration pushed a rule that would banned “discrimination against transgender individuals”, with the consequence, in part, that doctors would have been forced to treat men as if they were women and women as if they were men, contrary to biological and medical reality.

For now, at least, this insanity has been put on hold:

“A Texas judge has temporarily blocked the Obama administration’s new requirements for transgender care, granting a preliminary injunction Saturday to several states and religious health organizations suing over the rules.

“The rule, which was slated to go into effect Jan. 1, says that doctors can’t refuse to provide medically necessary health services within their scope of practice because of a patient’s gender identity. It doesn’t explicitly require doctors to perform gender transition services, but it says providers can’t refuse services they already provide based on discrimination.”

Thus, if you provide a service to a woman that involves female organs or other biology, you would have had to treat a man the same way just because he fancied himself a woman, even if such “treatment” was medically harmful. Sadly, this was predicted over a decade ago by South Park.

Yet again, the Left demonstrates that they consider reality to be a social construct.

Not only would have the edict required doctors to violate their religious and moral sensibilities, but also abandon the Hippocratic Oath by allowing the government and those suffering from gender dysphasia to overrule the doctors’ medical judgment.

The ruling is not limited to the effect of Obama’s “gender equality” mandates on doctors, but on the broader ban on “discrimination on the basis of gender identity” affecting the entire Federal government and all aspects of society in which the Federal government’s tentacles have ensnared.

Yet again, the Left demonstrates that it isn’t about expanding freedom, but enforcing compulsion upon others.

One Close Election Balances Another

Last November, Bloomberg’s anti-2nd Amendment brigade outspent pro-2nd Amendment lovers and passed, by less than 1%, a flawed anti-2nd Amendment initiative measure that required FBI background checks for almost transfers of possession of firearms, even temporary ones amongst people at a hunting trip. However, it would seem that despite all of the out-of-state money Bloomberg spent on the initiative, they didn’t bother spending it on competent lawyers to draft the measure, because by its very wording, IT IS UNINFORCEABLE.

“Ballot Question 1 requires that private party gun transfers – with a few exceptions – be subject to a federal background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System administered by the FBI.

“The FBI sent a letter Dec. 14 to the state of Nevada’s Department of Public Safety saying it would not conduct these checks. The department asked for a legal opinion on the letter’s ramifications.

“Because the text of the new Background Check Act says private-party transfers and sales must be done through the FBI background check system, the Nevada Attorney General’s Office opinion states, ‘citizens may not be prosecuted for their inability to comply with the Act unless and until the FBI changes its public position and agrees to conduct the background checks consistent with the Act.’

“In a statement, the attorney general’s office said, ‘without this central feature (the FBI background check), the Background Check Act cannot commence.'”

     Oopsie!

The opinion was delivered by the Nevada Attorney General, who won by less than 1%. One can but wonder, thankfully, what idiocy would have transpired if Adam Laxalt had been defeated by zombie-rights advocate Ross Miller

Quick Takes – Bad Food at School; Virtually Safe Space at School; The New Scarlet Letter at School

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Politically Correct School

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Thankfully, we won’t have to deal with the Obama Jugend for much longer, but actually dismantling their damage will take awhile. One of the many examples that will have to be dealt with, and the damage corrected for: “School Lunch Advisory Councils” for Michelle Obama’s school lunch initiatives.

“Food waste has increased since more whole grains and less sodium were mandated in school lunches by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, the law championed by Mrs. Obama that went into effect in 2012.

“Now School Lunch Advisory Councils, or SLACs, are being used in Montana middle and high schools to make sure students are eating healthily.

“‘Food service directors from Montana middle and high schools are enticing teens to choose more fruits and vegetables at school lunch through the use of School Lunch Advisory Councils (SLACs),’ the blog post said. ‘A SLAC is composed of a food service director, an educator, and two to three students that work together toward a goal of implementing simple, low-cost strategies to encourage students to make healthier choices in the cafeteria.’

“‘For example, students from Park High School’s SLAC in Livingston created signage for the school cafeteria to promote fruit selection,’ the post continued. ‘This included a life-size poster of the basketball coach giving out an apple with the caption “Got fruit? Tastes almost as good as victory.”‘

“Montana food directors said that once the cafeteria put up the ‘creative signage’ and moved its salad bar, lunch waste decreased by 35 percent.

“School lunch officials with the Montana Office of Public Instruction model their cafeterias off the ‘Smarter Lunchroom Movement’ started by Cornell University.

“‘Smarter Lunchrooms uses the basic principles of behavioral economics (the influencing factors behind people’s choices and behaviors) to create an environment that makes the healthy choice the easy choice,’ the state agency said.

“The program provides tools to ‘nudge healthy eating as soon as students enter the lunchroom.'”

Un-queering the Cake

It has become a truism that when the Left talk about “discrimination”, why they are really referring to is a lack of legal privilege, and similarly when they talk about “rights”, they refer not to fundamental (AKA “negative”), rights, but of “positive” rights which are state mandate compulsion pushed on others. Thence

That, then, explains why proponents of so-called “LGBTQ&c. rights” are in hysterics over the proposed Federal “First Amendment Defense Act”, which it is claimed “would effectively legalize anti-LGBTQ discrimination across the board, including among employers, businesses, landlords and healthcare providers”.

And proving that intersectionalism is still the current hotness amongst the so-called intelligentsia of the Left, this is also totes literally “the worst thing to happen to women and LGBT people in a generation.”

And just what is the text that authorizes what, from the rhetoric, seemingly involves a jihad against homosexuals and women?

“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Federal Government shall not take any discriminatory action against a person, wholly or partially on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage.”

Marriage as defined by a 1985 Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia

From the text itself, it is clear that this bill does not authorize discrimination against homosexuals or women because they are homosexuals or women. All it does is that a business will not be punished by the Federal government because they refuse to condone or in any way participate in anything that forces them to act or speak contrary to their morals on this point.
