Obama Scandals

Obama Rips Fox: “We’re Going to Have to Change How the Media Reports”
For going on seven years we have learned three things about President Obama: 1) He loves the poor so much he continues to create more of them. 2) He loves the poor so much he does everything in his power to keep them poor. 3) He doesn’t see the opposition as loyal, but as bad players — his enemy. This is especially true of Fox News, which Obama ripped as anti-poor bigots during a Wednesday afternoon summit on poverty.

Gay marriage supporters: yeah, Dan Savage says hateful things, but we still like him
Last week, the Media Research Center’s Dan Joseph decided to talk to demonstrators at the Supreme Court, as oral arguments on the recent marriage equality case before the Court were being heard. Now, most media outlets focus on the anti-gay right, and their hateful comments towards homosexuals and gay marriage movement. Yet, it goes both ways. Case in point, political activist Dan Savage, who once wished that Republicans “were all f**king dead,” and that Pennsylvania Senate candidate Carl Romanelli “should be dragged behind a pickup truck until there’s nothing left but the rope.”

Marquette University Decides to Glorify a Cop-Killer
Marquette’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Center was set up as a sop to the campus gay lobby in the wake of Marquette’s refusal to hire aggressively lesbian Arts & Sciences dean candidate Jodi O’Brien. Not surprisingly, it has consistently pursued a leftist secular agenda including, for example, the Femsex Seminar, which was so raunchy and so opposed to Marquette’s supposed “Catholic mission” that the Administration ordered that sponsorship be withdrawn.

Economy & Taxes

Paul Krugman’s Pretense of Economic Knowledge
It is wrong to call economics “the dismal science.” Dismal, yes; science, no.

Don’t Look Now But The Economy Is Tanking Toward Recession
The Wall Street Journal is being too optimistic, on Friday they reported, “The U.S. economy had a really bad March, the worst since the financial crisis. But don’t panic.”

US Spending on Social Programs 17 times that of Socialist China
The US spends more than 17 times that of socialist China on social programs! According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, the total amount of outflows for China’s social programs in 2013 was $451 billion USD (2.8 trillion CNY). On the other side of the Pacific, the US spent $2.2 trillion USD in 2013 on health, welfare and pension (old age) benefits. Assuming these numbers are correct, then the US spent roughly five times that of socialist China in social program costs. However, when accounting for these numbers on a per capita basis, with China having more than 1.361 billion people and the US with 316 million people in 2013, then the result is that the US spends 17 times that of socialist China. These results again lead to the question – Which is the socialist country – the US or China?

Rising SNP failed to persuade Scots, but might induce the English to secede

Canadian government weighing hate-speech charges against people who boycott Israel
Wonderful news. Not the charges themselves; those are terrible. What’s wonderful is that, hopefully, the more the American left finds its own pet causes targeted as “hate speech” abroad, the less eager they’ll be to encourage an awful European-style hate-speech legal regime at home. They’re going to learn a hard lesson here about what can happen when the state gains the power to criminalize “hate.”

UK Plans To Do Away With Free Speech… In The Name Of Free Speech
Last fall, we noted that UK Home Secretary Theresa May had made it clear that if her Conservative Party were re-elected, one of the first orders of business would be a new “Extremist Disruption Orders” plan that would outlaw any speech or events that the government declared “extremist.” She wasn’t kidding around. Following last week’s election in the UK, David Cameron appears to be announcing just such a plan to basically wipe out anything resembling free expression in the UK (and, yes, I know, the UK doesn’t view free expression in the same way as the US does, and there’s nothing like the First Amendment there — you don’t have to point that out in the comments).

Speak Free or Die
I damn sure didn’t go to war for this country twice to come home and be told by a bunch of homely chicks with daddy issues, effete literary fops scandalized by the notion of resistance to Third World pathologies, and nimrod sons of politicians playing at journalism what I can and can’t say. And I don’t think most Americans are ready to have everything they speak, write, or think perused for possible hate criminality by these same goose-stepping creeps.

The Left’s Crusade Against Free Speech
In October 2009, the Obama White House launched a concerted attack against critical press coverage, one unparalleled since the days of the Nixon White House. In one respect, Barack Obama and Richard Nixon were in agreement: both perceived a distinctly liberal bias in the media. Nixon denounced the press for its leftism, Obama objected to the press’s deviation from it. So Obama and his senior staff singled out for condemnation Fox News, the lone television network that did not serve up the fawning coverage the president and his team had come to expect.

The case for conservative civil disobedience
Review of “By the People: Rebuilding Liberty Without Permission” by Charles Murray

Why men won’t marry you
That’s a question Peter Lloyd tackles in a series in London’s Daily Mail about Britain’s marriage rate, which is at its lowest level since 1895. “The state of matrimony is not just ailing. It is dying out faster than a mobile phone battery,” Lloyd writes. “For an army of women, Mr. Right is simply not there, no matter how hard they look for him.”

Blasphemy and The 1st Amendment
Just how valuable to our society is free expression?

Boys Without Dads: A Cruel and Volatile Calculus

Obama Complains to UN About America’s “Human Rights” Violations
The Obama administration has, once again, complained to the United Nations about alleged American human rights violations–and boasted about liberal policies like Obamacare as the solution.

Boyhood Under Attack: Why Boys Can’t Just Be Boys Anymore
Boys can no longer act like boys. The days of them exploring, experimenting and acting like young adventurers have been replaced by more feminine activities. Young boys are also being medicated more when they don’t actually need it. In fact, the majority of children being treated for ADHD are predominantly boys. So why is boyhood being drugged? Why are there so many gender disparities in education? What needs to be done to restore masculinity in boyhood? PJ Media’s Dr. Helen Smith joins PJTV contributors Stephen Green, Scott Ott and Stephen Kruiser in this part one of this six part series hosted by Bill Whittle.

The First – and a Half – Amendment
Free speech and artistic and intellectual expression have been controversial Western traditions since the rise of the classical-Greek city-state. When our Founding Fathers introduced guarantees of such freedoms to our new nation, they were never intended to protect thinkers whom we all admire or traditionalists who produce beloved movies like The Sound of Music.

Newsflash For “Triggered” College Students: The Adult World Is Not One Big, Extra-Cushy Couch
At Chronicle, in the wake of all the “trigger warnings” everywhere, Todd Gitlin gets it right on what a college education is supposed to be — disturbing

Leftism is Just Religion for the Godless, Continued
If you’ve read Marx, and I’ve read him slightly, you’ll notice that his ranting sounds a lot like an angry, bitter failure ranting at God, but, being an atheist, he can’t rant at God.

Springtime for Dictators
Raúl Castro’s “very friendly” meeting with Pope Francis.

What’s Driving the Kafkaesque Crackdown on “Free-Range Parenting”?
Controversies about “free-range parenting” illuminate today’s scarred cultural landscape. Neighbors summon police in response to parenting choices of which the neighbors disapprove. Government extends its incompetence with an ever-broader mission of “child protection.” And these phenomena are related to campus hysteria about protecting infantilized undergraduates from various menaces, including uncongenial ideas.

How To Inoculate Your Daughter Against Campus Feminism
As a public service announcement, any Power Line readers with daughters heading off to college next fall ought to have a look at NeW, the Network of Enlightened Women. No—seriously—I know what you’re thinking: “Enlightened” is often a euphemism for leftism, but in this case NeW is a nice twit of NOW (National Organization for Women), which really ought to be thought of as THEN (Thoroughly Harridan Egalitarian Nonsense), and NeW run by some smart young ladies from our team.

A phenomenal talk about the Constitution and how to make it meaningful to America’s young people
I had the great pleasure today of attending a phenomenal talk by Prof. David Bobb, president of the Bill of Rights Institute. BRI uses original source documents to help teachers ans students understand America’s founding document and to see how it’s still relevant today. Its ultimate goal is to bring to an end our nation’s intellectual disengagement from the Constitution and to lead young people to “think the vote,” which is mindful, informed approach to elections, rather than to “rock the vote,” a mindless, drone-like approach to important issues that profoundly affect America’s young people.

China’s Attack on Religious Liberty: A Model for Progressives?
The Washington Post reported last week that “Chinese authorities have ordered Muslim shopkeepers and restaurant owners in its troubled Xinjiang region to sell alcohol and cigarettes, and promote them in ‘eye-catching displays,’ in an attempt to undermine Islam’s hold on local residents.” According to the order, anyone who fails to comply with it “will see their shops sealed off, their businesses suspended, and legal action pursued against them.”

In the long run, wars make us safer and richer
Norman Angell, the Paris editor of Britain’s Daily Mail, was a man who expected to be listened to. Yet even he was astonished by the success of his book “The Great Illusion,” in which he announced that war had put itself out of business. “The day for progress by force has passed,” he explained. From now on, “it will be progress by ideas or not at all.”

Fundamental Concepts – How to Get Rich
Low interest rates mean that money is “free”. If not free, near enough to free that it makes no difference. Oppressive regulations mean that every company spends a considerable amount of their resources on compliance. What does that give us?

Is the GOP finally playing the long game?
In the days that followed Mitt Romney’s loss to Barack Obama, postmortems were written and recriminations were slung. Theories about what led to the GOP’s stunning loss, a defeat not foreshadowed by national public opinion surveys, and what was to be done about it in the coming cycles proliferated. One of the hypotheses that explained the scope of the Republican ticket’s loss to the incumbent president was the theory that unexpected turnout in urban centers helped Obama run up the final score.

Feminist Logic: Shut Up, Haters
Did you know @KateSpencer has “self-inflicted body shame”? Yeah, your first thought is probably: Kate Who? But before we answer that question, let’s talk about her body shame.

Stephanopoulos so bad, he’s making Geraldo look good
Stephanopoulos-gate – bad for America, good for Geraldo

Ted Cruz, the only Republican arrogant enough to be president
Ted Cruz is intellectually arrogant, like Ronald Reagan. The difference is that Reagan masked his arrogance with self-deprecating humor. Sen. Cruz does a Reagan impression that would do a nightclub comedian proud, but he doesn’t have Reagan’s easy and spontaneous humor.

Loretta Sanchez commits a microaggression
The California senate race is shaping up nicely. Two rabid and dimwitted progressive harpies, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) and Attorney General Kamala Harris, are locked in a cage match to succeed another rabid and dimwitted progressive harpy, Barbara Boxer (D-CA). Sad to say, one of those two will be a US Senator and thereby, as horrifying as it sounds, actually lower the collective IQ of that august body.

The EU promotes child marriage
Gypsies who “have to” come to Sweden to beg because they are oppressed and poor in their countries of origin and that somehow that is Romania’s fault. The only problem with this narrative is that none of it is true.

War Against Human Nature: What Feminists Pay $47,030 a Year to Learn
It takes a lot of money to learn how to disregard — or condemn as “oppression” — ordinary common sense about human nature. When my wife and I went to the accountant to have our taxes done, one of my business expenses was the approximately $700 I’d spent buying feminist books from Amazon.com during 2014.
