Quick Takes – Academic MiniTru: Decolonizing Curricula; Revising History; Woke Propaganda

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: The academic equivalent of telling students that their choco rations increased to 20 grams from 30 grams.

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

What was once the receptacle of the knowledge of Western Civilization has become the form of its destructor.

“A group of Cornell University faculty, graduate students and staff sent a letter to the university administration with a handful of demands.

“In particular, the activists at the Ivy League school want to see a change in the curricula to emphasize ‘decolonized readings.’

“It’s one of a number of demands made at the university to address the treatment of black, indigenous and people of color, referred to through the letter as ‘BIPOC.’ The school has previously responded to other demands made by activists this summer.

“The group demanded in its September 8 letter posted to Medium that administrators ‘embed decolonized readings in every possible course at Cornell, including but not necessarily limited to the social sciences and humanities.’”

If history isn’t woke enough for you, change history… or at least what is believed to be the history.

“University officials should also ‘[m]ake decolonized reading lists more accessible to members of our community’ and include ‘the voices of BIPOC scholars in every area of study, within and beyond the humanities and social sciences.’”

“The quality of history education has gone down because of the College Board, scholars argue

“‘Publishers write their history textbooks so they will be adopted by AP history classes,’ David Randall of the National Association of Scholars said at the beginning of a discussion on the College Board’s effect on history education.

“…

“The association hosted the discussion on November 18, titled ‘Becoming a Citizen: The College Board & the Undermining of American History.’

“The event introduced a new report from the education reform group titled “Disfigured History,” that ‘details the careless, politicized history in the College Board’s revisions to the Advanced Placement (AP) European, United States, and World History examinations,’ according to a description of the event.”

Meanwhile in a Los Angeles high school.
