Quick Takes – Woke Academic Study: Secret Pedagogues ; Social Justice Mathematics; Cultural Humility Training.

     Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

     The focus this time: Wokeness has never been so seriously mysterious.

     Your humble author is not one to go hog wild for conspiracy theories, but its shenanigans like this that makes one wonder just what is happening sub-rosa?

“Multiple schools that offer extensive training and educational opportunities on LGBT issues are refusing to say where they get their instructional material, who writes it, and who on campus is qualified to teach it.

“Drexel University, Duke University, Georgia Tech and the University of California, Davis all have active and dedicated LGBT resource organizations that offer students numerous opportunities for learning about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender culture. The websites for these organizations offer very little information about where the material for those classes and workshops come from.

“The College Fix reached out to each organization multiple times via email and phone asking for that information. None offered it. Reached via phone Wednesday evening, a representative from UC-Davis’s LGBTQIA Resource Center said The Fix‘s queries would be passed on to a supervisor.”

     How do you get two plus two to equal five? Social Justice Mathematics, of course!

“A math professor recently involved in a political controversy in academic mathematics has issued a call for ‘ideas’ on how to ‘advance #socialjustice’ in a mathematics textbook series.

“Chad Topaz was one of the professors at the center of the uproar against Abigail Thompson, a math professor at the University of California, Davis, who recently wrote in opposition to required ‘diversity statements’ in academia. Thompson derided the practice of diversity statements, referring to them as ‘using a political test as a screen for job applicants.’”

     “Diversity” means uniformity of thought, including for the catagorically “oppressive” classes to be humiliated.

“Following a series of racist incidents on its campus, including vandalism and offensive photographs, Iowa State University’s administration has promised major new diversity initiatives for the school, including ‘cultural humility’ training and workshops for every faculty member on how to create ‘inclusive classroom environment[s].’

“In October the campus group Students Against Racism issued a list of demands to the university administration, including declaring a ‘zero tolerance policy towards racism and antisemitism,’ the expulsion of the students who recently drew swastikas on campus, and the firing of an advisor who ‘wore blackface,’ a reference to a student staffer’s having painted his face ‘a variety of colors’ for a campus play nine years ago.”
