How the University of Iowa Warns You Who NOT to Hire

The cancer that is “social justice” has been infesting colleges for decades, spreading from department to department, and college to college.  Now it has metathesized into is final form: The University of Iowa will be giving out degrees in Social Justice:

“The University of Iowa has become the first school in the state to add a bachelor’s program in social justice to its list of degrees, after its Board of Regents approved the motion Thursday.

“The school already offers a first-year seminar on social justice as well as a ‘Justice for All’ living learning community where students can live and ‘learn about systemic problems in our society.’

“University officials told The Iowa City Press-Citizen that both programs have been so well-received, with full-enrollment in the ‘Justice for All’ learning community, that demand for an actual degree-program on the topic made sense.

“‘The proposed program will appeal to students who want a vocation related to helping others, or careers in government services or the nonprofit sector, but are not necessarily interested in teaching or social work,’ a proposal for the program suggested, noting that there is no ‘specific degree program’ at the university or in the state that provides ‘opportunities in these areas.’

“According to the proposal, the program will be interdisciplinary in nature, since more and more students have ‘expressed a desire to integrate academic work more deeply with anticipated career paths,’ such as social activism work with a non-profit.”

Unsurprisingly, the mandarins on the Board of Regents gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up.

“[T] he Board of Regents voted to approve the social justice degree program at its meeting Thursday.”

California’s War on Cow Farts

Since California has solved all other problems—including rape, murder, arson, and rape—their Grand Soviet Legislature has decided to drive out the dairy industry from the state:

“California’s Legislature has approved regulations on cow flatulence and manure – both blamed for releasing greenhouse gases.

“The measure was approved shortly before the end of the legislative session Wednesday after its author, Democratic Senator Ricardo Lara of Bell Gardens, agreed to give dairy farms more time to comply.

“The legislation seeks to reduce methane emissions associated with manure to 40 percent below their 2013 levels by 2030. Methane is one of several gases known as short-lived climate pollutants that don’t persist for long in the atmosphere but have a huge influence on the climate.”

California’s elites are hell bent on driving out agriculture, or even any doubleplusungood industry.  It’s almost as if California’s digital oligarchs don’t want the competition to their power and want to preserve their right to fundamentally transform the increasing serf class in California.

Quick Takes – Genderbending Leviathan; Genderbending Education; Genderbending Medicine

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: LOL “Gender”

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Supporting for this genderbending insanity isn’t about protecting children from bullies, but subsuming those very same children into the state:

“While the gay agenda, which is cloaked in civil rights language that makes it hard to challenge, is the leading edge of the state’s desire to control children’s sexuality, Leftists also use the schools to manipulate heterosexual behaviors so as to destroy a child’s physical boundaries. In England, parents were aghast to learn that a school was requiring its first-grade pupils to massage each other. In Iowa (Iowa!), one middle school has abandoned any pretense of traditional morality and, instead, is teaching its eighth-graders ‘how to perform female exams and to put a condom on a 3-D, anatomically correct male sex organ.’ The body is a tool, and nothing more.

“Freud was right when he speculated that sex, perhaps because it is the least easily satisfied human need, may also be the most powerful physical need driving human beings. Freud, however, viewed sexuality through the spectrum of a given individual’s desires. What the statists understand — and have always understood — is that our bodies are the first line in the battle between statism and individualism. If a person is allowed to develop a sense that his body is his own to control, he will never willingly yield to the demands of the state. Only by convincing its citizens that they have no personal autonomy, beginning with control over their own bodies, can a state completely subsume the individual to the bureaucracy.”

The Obama administration has sent out a “guidance” document that cites Title IX (which affects discrimination based on biological sex) to support defenestrating biological sex from the legal world, and replace it with mandatory acceptance of genderbending nonsense.

” Under Title IX, a school must treat students consistent with their gender identity even if their education records or identification documents indicate a different sex. The Departments have resolved Title IX investigations with agreements committing that school staff and contractors will use pronouns and names consistent with a transgender student’s gender identity.

“…

“Title IX’s implementing regulations permit a school to provide sex-segregated restrooms, locker rooms, shower facilities, housing, and athletic teams, as well as single-sex classes under certain circumstances.12 When a school provides sex-segregated activities and facilities, transgender students must be allowed to participate in such activities and access such facilities consistent with their gender identity.13 Restrooms and Locker Rooms. A school may provide separate facilities on the basis of sex, but must allow transgender students access to such facilities consistent with their gender identity.14 A school may not require transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity or to use individual-user facilities when other students are not required to do so. A school may, however, make individual-user options available to all students who voluntarily seek additional privacy.

“…

“Protecting transgender students’ privacy is critical to ensuring they are treated consistent with their gender identity. The Departments may find a Title IX violation when a school limits students’ educational rights or opportunities by failing to take reasonable steps to protect students’ privacy related to their transgender status, including their birth name or sex assigned at birth.25 Nonconsensual disclosure of personally identifiable information (PII), such as a student’s birth name or sex assigned at birth, could be harmful to or invade the privacy of transgender students and may also violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).26 A school may maintain records with this information, but such records should be kept confidential.”

Not even the medical necessity of accurately determining the biological sex of a patient in order to “first do no harm” while treating a patient will be allowed to stand in the way of the proffered new truth.

” These regulations threaten the religious liberty, freedom of conscience, and independent medical judgment of health care professionals. And, just as they did in the transgender school policy the Obama administration announced this morning, the administration has created these new Obamacare regulations by redefining ‘sex’ to mean ‘gender identity.’

“…

“By prohibiting differential treatment on the basis of ‘gender identity’ in health services, these regulations will penalize medical professionals and health care organizations that, as a matter of faith, moral conviction, or professional medical judgment, believe that maleness and femaleness are biological realities to be respected and affirmed, not altered or treated as diseases.”

Doctors will no longer be able to practice according to their best medical judgement, because apparently Social Justice Warriors who engage in Gender Lysenkoism are more knowledgeable about the human body than a doctor…

“The regulations will force many physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to participate in sex-reassignment surgeries and treatments, even if it violates their religious beliefs or their best medical judgment.

“Moreover, because they apply so broadly, the regulations will also force employers, individuals, and taxpayers to fund coverage for such procedures even if doing so conflicts with their sincere beliefs.”

     O Brave New World…

Denying the Cake

There is nothing more political these days than cakes.

We have already seen bakers prosecuted for declining to use their personal creative abilities to promote and endorse a same-sex ceremony, yet free to decline to use their personal creative abilities to condemn it… as well as free to support the Islamic State, ironically enough.

The newest controversial statement that at least one baker wouldn’t touch?

A birthday cake that has written upon it “Make America Great Again”.

That’s right, a pro-Trump cake was turned down:

“A Facebook post shared by a Bossier Parish teen is getting a lot of attention.

“It reads, ‘Just left Albertsons. The woman behind the cake counter just refused to make me a birthday cake because I wanted Trump 2016 on it. Did that really just happen.’

“…

“When she and  her Mom went to order her cake at Albertson’s on East Texas Street in Bossier City, they weren’t expecting the reaction they got.

“‘We just need an American flag cake with Trump 2016 on it, and right when I said Trump the lady just (makes face) kinda Trump? And she was like I can make you a flag cake but I’m not going to write Trump on it,’ explained [teenager McKenzie] Gill.

“Gill says they decided to take their order elsewhere, and notified store officials.

“‘It’s your job, we’re not really going for your opinion on what you think of the candidates we were just wanting Trump 2016 on the cake.’ “

The excuse they gave was… copyright infringement:

“We apologize to our customer in Bossier City for the situation regarding the cake that was requested. Our Bakery staff member misunderstood the training provided regarding copyrighted phrases, and incorrectly informed the customer we could not fulfill her request. We would be happy to provide the cake as the customer requested.”

Funny how that wasn’t a valid excuse when it came to copyrighted characters like Bert & Ernie

Massachusetts and the Established Church of Transgenderism

Iowa has already declared that any church that welcomes non-members to celebrate the congregations faith must surrender their 1st Amendment rights and accepts the state’s own tenants of the social justice faith and abolish the gender binary in their own church.

Did anyone really think that Massachusetts wouldn’t get in on that action?

     Stop laughing.

Massachusetts will require that ” churches must acknowledge transgender ideology or practice their doctrine on human sexuality in secret — putting Christianity in the closet” under their “Gender Identity Guidance” document.

“The guidance specifically mentions churches as falling under the ‘public accommodation’ restrictions against ‘discrimination’ on the basis of gender identity: ‘Even a church could be seen as a place of public accommodation if it holds a secular event, such as a spaghetti supper, that is open to the general public,’ the MCAD explained.

“The restrictions are massive. Any ‘public accommodation’ must allow patrons to use men’s or women’s restrooms — and locker rooms and changing rooms — ‘consistent with their gender identity.’ Such places must also ‘use names, pronouns, and gender-related terms appropriate to employee’s stated gender identity in communications with employee and with others.’

“These are not small asks for churches, Christian schools, and other organizations which operate on Christian principles.”

Not only will churches be required to let men into the girls room, but any religious facility with a changing rooms must allow grown men to be nude and lathered up with pre-pubescent children.  Heck, a church will be punished for daring to call a man a man, or a woman a woman!

It only applies to “secular events”… which can be narrowly read as anything that has a secular aspect in addition to a religious aspect.

Clearly, you can practice your faith and believe whatever you want… in the darkened closet of your own private residence… alone.

It Doesn’t Affect You, But It Does

John Donne once said that “no man is an island”.  Society has evolved, does evolve, and will evolve, with the actions of each to one degree or another affecting it and being affected by it.  Society isn’t some abstract idea or social construct of the conspiratorial vein.  The libertarian ideal that everyone can do what they want and anything not affecting others in the strictest 1st degree will not have a depreciative or dilatory effect others, and thus society, is based upon a blind faith that the way, the truth, the light, of Randian enlightenment can not, and will not, be snuffed out a la Anthem because the choices of others does not, in the strictest 1st degree, command another.

But this is based on an overly idealistic view of mankind.  It is the idealistic view that once a great evil is purged, that a true utopia will arise once properly established; it is the idealistic view shared by Communists, Progressives, and other assorted socialists.

A society where people are free to chooce as they like, but where the great swath of the populace have the wisdom to choose correctly, is a rare one.  It can not be constructed.  It, indeed, is a result of a strange and unlikely confluence of history.  America is that confluence.  It can not be rebuilt ex nihilo.  It can not overwrite an existing bias or set of mores.  It can not be written upon a tabula rasa, as such hypothetical musings are antithetical to human reality.  Despite the intentions otherwise, “their passions forge their fetters”.

It is something that must be conserved.  It calls not for magicians to alchemists who can bring forth purity of essence from some invented and contrived trick.  It calls for stewards to keep and protect our civic inheritance, and to protect society’s evolution from the hands and machinations of intelligent design by unintelligent designers.

There is no “social contract” between some hypothetical founders ex nihilo of society.

In a way, though, “Society is indeed a contract”, as Edmund Burke noted:

“Subordinate contracts for objects of mere occasional interest may be dissolved at pleasure — but the state ought not to be considered as nothing better than a partnership agreement in a trade of pepper and coffee, calico or tobacco, or some other such low concern, to be taken up for a little temporary interest, and to be dissolved by the fancy of the parties. It is to be looked on with other reverence; because it is not a partnership in things subservient only to the gross animal existence of a temporary and perishable nature. It is a partnership in all science; a partnership in all art; a partnership in every virtue, and in all perfection. As the ends of such a partnership cannot be obtained in many generations, it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are to be born. Each contract of each particular state is but a clause in the great primaeval contract of eternal society, linking the lower with the higher natures, connecting the visible and the invisible world, according to a fixed compact sanctioned by the inviolable oath which holds all physical and all moral natures, each in their appointed place. This law is not subject to the will of those, who by an obligation above them, and infinitely superior, are bound to submit their will to that law. The municipal corporations of that universal kingdom are not morally at liberty at their pleasure, and on their speculations of a contingent improvement, wholly to separate and tear asunder the bands of their subordinate community, and to dissolve it into an unsocial, uncivil, unconnected chaos of elementary principles. It is the first and supreme necessity only, a necessity that is not chosen, but chooses, a necessity paramount to deliberation, that admits no discussion, and demands no evidence, which alone can justify a resort to anarchy. This necessity is no exception to the rule; because this necessity itself is a part too of that moral and physical disposition of things, to which man must be obedient by consent or force: but if that which is only submission to necessity should be made the object of choice, the law is broken, nature is disobeyed, and the rebellious are outlawed, cast forth, and exiled, from this world of reason, and order, and peace, and virtue, and fruitful penitence, into the antagonist world of madness, discord, vice, confusion, and unavailing sorrow.”

Something that “doesn’t” affect you, thus, DOES.

Take, for example, the entire push for “LGBTQ&c.&c.” so-called “rights”.

We were told that it was about the “right” of people to do as they wanted in private.  Since this was consistent, rather than antagonistic, to the American weal and civic vitue, great swaths of sexual activity was legalized and protected.  After such legalization, the argument then proceeded to dismissing how anything that is legal be considered immoral and something to be opposed; one doesn’t want to oppose freedom, after all.  Anyone who would have a problem with such activities must be a bigot and thus harbor secret plans to criminalize behavior and thus discriminate against those who engage, or are inclined to engaging in, such activities, because, after all, such Leftist viewpoints presume an oppressor and oppressed dichotomy.  Thus, any dissent is considered proof of evil and oppression.

That just and reverable tendency towards tolerance was used by those who oppose both liberty and virtue to force those who hold both dear into positions that negate both.

We are still told that such eventualities are always “crazy” and will never come to be, despite that fact that they always do.  As Lord Melbourne noted:

“What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”

From an appeal to tolerance, when out of power, to crushing dissent when in power, certain truths become manifest:

Socialized Healthcare: Banning People from Surgery

The bounty of socialized welfare programs can be seen in the paragon of plenty, the British National Healthcare Service (NHS)… who, due to lack of sufficient tax-paid funds, are being forced to deny routine surgeries… against select groups of people.

“Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.

“Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole.”

Common Sense is Sexist and Kinda Rapey

Being a reasonable person is tantamount to supporting sexual harassment, sexism, and rape culture… as far as the Obama administration is concerned.

“Defining sexual harassment using ‘common sense and reason’ is a violation of Title IX, the Department of Education declared in a letter released Friday.

“The letter, released by the department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), concerns an investigation into alleged Title IX violations at Frostburg State University in Maryland.”

Why is this such a dangerous “letter”?  Because common sense and what a reasonable person would believe is an integral part of our Common Law tradition.

The letter explicitly states that “[T]he Sexual Harassment Policy inappropriately stated that ‘in assessing whether a particular act constitutes sexual harassment forbidden under this policy, the rules of common sense and reason shall prevail. The standard shall be the perspective of a reasonable person within the campus community.’ This standard falls short of the preponderance of the evidence standard required to satisfy Title IX.”
