In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.
With Russia getting militarily frisky in Eastern Europe, and heightened concerns concerning the Baltic countries, let us look back nearly half-a-century ago when the question of NATO and European Security was also of concern, in this discussion between William F. Buckley, Jr. and Alexander Haig.
Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.
The focus this time: Your child is their soldier for wokeness.
First, a little mood music:

What does the ACLU want to help the government hide from parents?
“In recent decades, the ACLU has supported transparency laws in schools when it came to sex education instruction, religious teachings in public schools, and segregating activities by sex.
“So why are they opposing laws that would require transparency when it comes to the teaching of critical race theory?
Curriculum transparency bills are just thinly veiled attempts at chilling teachers and students from learning and talking about race and gender in schools. https://t.co/EqKN4EGX3m

“…
“We have constantly been told that CRT is not being taught in schools and that this is all a political battle having nothing to do with education. Indeed, the precise concepts of critical race theory are not being taught. What is being taught are lessons based on the concepts of critical race theory. Every time a school administrator or their supporters on the left make that argument, you can almost see the sneer of contempt on their face. They know full well that those lessons are based on arguments advanced by critical race theorists.
“It’s impossible to prove that’s their intent unless the underlying rationale for teaching a specific lesson is exposed. And that’s where the transparency laws come into play. Parents have a right to know if there is an effort being made at stealth instruction of an insidious academic form that most younger children couldn’t understand.
“As the ACLU led the fight for transparency in sex education, they will now lead the fight in the effort to cover up the true nature of CRT instruction.”

California’s plan to teach the worship of bloodthirsty Aztec gods has come to a halt after the state of California reached a settlement in a lawsuit against the teaching of chants to Aztec god as part of their “Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum”. This curriculum wasn’t just some social/historical educational roleplay:
“The religious narrative is even more disturbing. Cuauhtin developed a related ‘mandala’ claiming that white Christians committed ‘theocide’ against indigenous tribes, killing their gods and replacing them with Christianity. White settlers thus established a regime of ‘coloniality, dehumanization, and genocide,’ characterized by the ‘explicit erasure and replacement of holistic Indigeneity and humanity.’ The solution, according to Cuauhtin and the ethnic studies curriculum, is to ‘name, speak to, resist, and transform the hegemonic Eurocentric neocolonial condition’ in a posture of ‘transformational resistance.’ The ultimate goal is to ‘decolonize’ American society and establish a new regime of ‘countergenocide’ and ‘counterhegemony,’ which will displace white Christian culture and lead to the ‘regeneration of indigenous epistemic and cultural futurity.’
“This religious concept is fleshed out in the model curriculum’s official ‘ethnic studies community chant.’ The curriculum recommends that teachers lead their students in a series of indigenous songs, chants, and affirmations, including the ‘In Lak Ech Affirmation,’ which appeals directly to the Aztec gods. Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka—whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifice and cannibalism—asking him for the power to be ‘warriors’ for ‘social justice.’ Next, the students chant to the gods Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totek, seeking ‘healing epistemologies’ and ‘a revolutionary spirit.’ Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices during Aztec rule. Finally, the chant comes to a climax with a request for ‘liberation, transformation, [and] decolonization,’ after which students shout ‘Panche beh! Panche beh!’ in pursuit of ultimate ‘critical consciousness.’
“The chants have a clear implication: the displacement of the Christian god, which is said to be an extension of white supremacist oppression, and the restoration of the indigenous gods to their rightful place in the social justice cosmology. It is, in a philosophical sense, a revenge of the gods.”
The lawyer for the parents fighting that madness explains further:
BREAKING – we reached a settlement with the State of CA, and they will be PERMANENTLY REMOVING the Aztec chants from the Ethnic Studies Model Cirriculum and paying $100,000 towards our attorneys’ fees. My statement is in the thread below:
— Paul M. Jonna (@PaulJonna) January 15, 2022
We filed this lawsuit after we discovered that California’s Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum, a resource guide for local school districts, included prayers to Aztec gods – the same deities that were invoked when the Aztecs worshipped with human sacrifices.
— Paul M. Jonna (@PaulJonna) January 15, 2022
The Aztec prayers at issue – which seek blessings from and the intercession of these demonic forces – were not being taught as poetry or history.
— Paul M. Jonna (@PaulJonna) January 15, 2022
Rather, the ESMC instructed students to chant the prayers for emotional nourishment after a “lesson that may be emotionally taxing or even when student engagement may appear to be low.” The idea was to use them as prayers.

Higher education has been the incubator for Social Justice Warriors, be it under Critical Theory, “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity”, or “Social Emotional Learning”, since these ideologies of insanity were first envisioned. An in depth study by the James G. Martin center explores this metathesis in depth, and ought to serve as both a warning and an objective analysis of this enemy to mankind.
From the Executive Summary:
Critical Social Justice (CSJ) poses a threat to higher education and to the American way of life. This school of thought goes by many names, including Critical Race Theory, Critical Theory, Multiculturalism, and Identity Politics. All these ideologies divide the world into aggrieved minorities and oppressive majorities, reducing people to a group identity grounded in immutable characteristics such as race and sex. They are based on a distorted view of what a human being is, compromising the pursuit of truth and diverting institutions that adopt it away from excellence and merit and toward factionalism. They cultivate resentment and anger among the supposedly aggrieved while undermining the stability, equal treatment, and mutual toleration that contributes to individual happiness and good citizenship. Universities promote CSJ policies under the seemingly innocuous rubric of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Most schools in the UNC System have adopted CSJ in their strategic plans, and things are accelerating across the system. A system-wide Racial Equity Task Force, which the Board of Governors seemingly empowered, released a report in December 2020 to accelerate the push to extend DEI programming into all facets of all the universities. It called for more administrative DEI hiring throughout the system and establishing more new programming aimed supposedly at aggrieved minorities, including curricular changes and more developed retention programs. The entire report was based on the idea that the UNC System represents systematically racist notions of achievement that could be deconstructed through careful administrative oversight.
Nearly every university is committed to building a DEI infrastructure. Here are the highlights from a survey of publicly available information across the system:
- Total DEI administrative salaries across the system exceed $12 million.
- Both UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State each have 11 DEI administrators making more than $100,000, with more than 30 DEI employees total at each school. Salaries at each university total more than $3.25 million.
- UNC System medical schools have extensive DEI administrative functions, including the UNC School of Medicine’s nine administrators dedicated to DEI and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina’s five DEI administrators (three of whom earn more than $100,000).
- All 16 schools have DEI aspirations laid out in their strategic plans.
- At least seven schools require implicit bias training for all job search committees.
- Curricula dedicated to DEI are expanding not only through increased general education requirements but also through “Living-Learning Communities” that promote social activism.
- The Racial Equity Task Force is pressuring schools to conform to these mandates.
The CSJ-DEI complex is expanding rapidly in the UNC System. Soon many more colleges will have deans and associate deans dedicated to promoting this pernicious ideology. Those deans will enact more policies such as requiring new candidates to submit DEI statements, creating higher pay scales for supposedly aggrieved minorities, or making optional training mandatory. Any influx of monies will be diverted in large part to further these DEI efforts. The Board of Governors and the legislature stand at an inflection point: either stop the DEI industrial complex or it will take over North Carolina’s universities.
One of the central tenets of Leftist thought when it comes to “gender” can be found in Critical Theory, namely the believe that, in the case of “gender”, cis-heteronormativity (i.e. dudes who know they are dudes and like chicks or chicks who know they are chicks and like dudes) is an oppressive social construct, and that the only way to counter this is to denormalize “cis-heteronormativity” by declaring it false and ephemeral while declaring “trans” and “queer” gender/sexuality to be the antithesis to the cis-heteronormative thesis, with the counter to an alleged false “essence” being a contrarian “identity” that serves as an “Aufhebung” that allows the immanentization of a gender eschaton.
This can be seen, in practice, by banning “conversion therapies” that seek to convince “trans” kids that they really are “cis”, something that is true in the vast majority of cases where gender dysmorphia doesn’t persist past childhood. Even openly suggesting that a “trans” kid might actually be “cis” is derided because “transitioning” must be a one-way street, ‘twould seem, especially in Canada.

Now Canada has made “converstion therapy” illegal, but only if you are trying to make a trans or queer person cis or straight, meaning that conversion therapy to groom a person into the LGBTQ&c. collective is completely legal in Canada! The key operative section in Canada’s new legislation reads:
320.101 In sections 320.102 to 320.104, conversion therapy means a practice, treatment or service designed to
(a) change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual;
(b) change a person’s gender identity to cisgender;
(c) change a person’s gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth;
(d) repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behaviour;
(e) repress a person’s non-cisgender gender identity; or
(f) repress or reduce a person’s gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth.
Note that this is banned even if the person wants to embrace being “cis” or straight!

With crime shooting back up to the level it was in the 1980s, and with a new Mayor of New York, let us look back on when another Mayor, Ed Koch, talked about tackling crime, abet without much success, with William F. Buckley, Jr.
The teaching of even mathematics is increasingly being taught crouched in woke activism. This is, sadly, not a new thing, as this textbook page from the Cultural Revolution in China sadly demonstrates.

“Stupid Nazis!”
The Democrats want to make the Gaia Jugend real…
“A group of more than 80 House and Senate Democrats on Tuesday laid out their vision for a climate jobs program called the Civilian Climate Corps that is expected to be part of a sweeping $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill filled with Democratic priorities.
“A new letter from Democrats spanning the ideological spectrum pushed for the program to prioritize natural climate solutions, clean energy, climate resilience and addressing environmental justice.
“The lawmakers also called for ‘ambitious’ labor standards, including a living wage and an award to help participants pay for college or pay back student loans. The letter did not specify how much money should be provided for that program.”
“They said half of the climate program’s investment should be directed into front-line communities disproportionately impacted by environmental issues and that half of the Corps’ members should be recruited from such communities.”
