Quick Takes – Not Dead Yet: Cash For Rebranded DEI At Harvard; Cornell’s Zombie DEI; Banned Iowa DEI Continues

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: It’s like a bad horror franchise where the entire point is to squeeze out even more money from people.

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Apparently zero funding means more funding if you switch sock puppets at Harvard.

“Harvard University’s newly established Office for Community Culture (OCC) now holds more funding and resources than all three of the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices it replaced, Harvard Dean David Deming told The Harvard Crimson.

“The OCC, which was launched earlier this year, absorbed the College’s former Women’s Center, BGLTQ Office, and Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations under a new sect of the office called the ‘Harvard Foundation.’

“Calming the fears of students who believed DEI was being eradicated, Deming confirmed that the funding slotted towards the Harvard Foundation’s rebranded DEI programming is more than all three of the DEI centers it replaced.”

Zombie DEI programs can survive even Donald Trump

“Cornell University’s deal with President Donald Trump, announced Friday, ended the administration’s civil rights investigations into the school — and left Cornell’s destructive Diversity, Equity and Inclusion agenda diminished, but not destroyed.

“What remains of Cornell’s DEI apparatus now resembles a zombie: It exists but is not quite alive.

“And it could yet resurrect itself.

“Each side benefits from the deal: Cornell, where I have taught law for 18 years, will get hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of federal grants that were put on hold as the government probed the campus response to the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel and the harassment of Jewish students.”

If no one notices, than it didn’t break any actual ban, right?

“Another undercover video has surfaced showing a University of Iowa administrator saying that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts continue on campus despite a state law banning them.

“The video, published by Townhall, shows Cory Lockwood, senior associate director of the Iowa Memorial Union, asserting that DEI work continues at the school despite public policy changes.

“‘There’s DEI work happening,’ Lockwood said. ‘Somebody’s not going to have that in their job description because of the State House.’

“He noted that terms like ‘belonging’ and ‘community’ have replaced DEI language ‘because of our state legislature.’

“Lockwood also explained that what ‘most [employees] are worried about is funding,’ but that DEI has not been eliminated. ‘So you’ll see words like belonging, community … we still have cultural centers here,’ the official says in the video.

“Iowa’s S.F. 2435, which was passed in May 2024, requires public universities to eliminate DEI-based offices.”
