Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.
The focus this time: When the color of your skin is the content of your character.
First, a little mood music:
Carrying on…

Even though the Supreme Court banned Affirmative Action at colleges and universities, some universities, such as the University of Central Arkansas, still are hell bent on offering race-based scholarships.
“The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) faces a civil-rights complaint filed by the Equal Protection Project (EPP) on Oct. 28 alleging that 10 of the school’s scholarships unlawfully restrict eligibility based on race and sex.
“One of the scholarships scrutinized in the complaint is the ‘Donis W. Ford Memorial Book Award,’ which was originally advertised as being offered to ‘full-time junior or senior African-American students’ only.
“Other examples listed in the complaint include the Dr. Willie Harden scholarship that was initially listed as ‘first preference given to African-American students’ and the Drew Marshall scholarship for ‘underserved minority students.’”

The University of New Mexico apparently hasn’t gotten the memo about the Supreme Court banning racial discrimination in admissions.
“The complaint claims that Michael Jakiche, the son of Syrian immigrants, was denied admission across two application cycles despite outstanding academic achievement, including an MCAT score in the 96th percentile and a 3.99 GPA, which is noticeably above the average for accepted applicants of 3.75.
“It alleges that UNM sent Jakiche a post-application advisement summary that stated, ‘Applicants are ranked with respect to each other according to their individual qualities as well as on the experiences and diversity that they will contribute to the entering class.’
“The UNM Health Sciences website also emphasizes diversity, stating that, ‘Our mission is to advance diversity, equity and inclusivity for all throughout New Mexico’s Health Science institutions and the communities they serve.’”

Despite Affirmative Action being, de jure illegal in the state of California since 1996, UCLA is still hell bent on racial discrimination.
“A nonprofit organization has filed a civil rights complaint against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for allegedly offering scholarships that discriminate on the basis of race and sex.
“The organization, the Equal Protection Project (EPP), filed the lawsuit on Nov. 7 with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
“‘We bring this civil rights complaint against the University of California, Los Angeles, for offering, administering, and promoting thirteen (13) scholarships that discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, and/or sex in violation of Title VI and Title IX, respectively,’ the lawsuit asserts.
“One award — the ‘UCLA Latino Alumni Association Endowed Alumni Scholarship’ — explicitly states on UCLA’s website that it is intended for ‘incoming LatinX freshmen and transfer students.’ Similarly, another tuition discount is specifically offered to Asian Pacific students.”
