Quick Takes – Academic Praxis: Special Ed. Equity Audit; DEI Renamed; Trashing YAF

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Wokes of the world unite?

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Now wokeness is coming for the most vulnerable and innocent amongst us.

“Future special education teachers at Kennesaw State University aren’t just being taught how to work with students with disabilities – they are also being trained to look for ‘inequity,’ examine ‘privilege,’ identify ‘microaggressions’ and conduct schoolwide ‘equity audits.’

“A fall 2026 class, titled ‘Addressing the Academic Needs of All Learners,’ focuses on academic and behavioral outcomes for ‘diverse learners including students with disabilities’ and emphasizes how schools can ‘equitably educate diverse learners.’

“In one assignment, students select a college syllabus and use what they have learned to ‘infuse’ it with issues of diversity, proposing changes to the course’s pedagogy, content, activities and required assignments. Another portion of the course introduces students to ‘power, privilege, and difference’ and asks them to examine the ‘existence of privilege” and complete activities concerning racial “microaggressions.‘”’

“The syllabus later moves into race, racism, gender socialization and the ‘social construction of disability.’ Assigned readings include a paper examining the intersections between ‘whiteness and disability studies’ and a work discussing ‘community cultural wealth’ through critical race theory.

“The course also requires a ‘Schoolwide Equity Audit and Reflection Paper’ worth 120 points, a quarter of the course’s 480 total points.”

Can’t push “anti-racist pedagogies” without DEI? Just use DEI under a different name!

“Central New Mexico Community College’s (CNM) rebranded Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office continues to promote equity initiatives and is developing an institute incorporating ‘anti-racist pedagogies.”

“While the community college announced it was rebranding the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as the Office of Organizational Culture and Effectiveness (OOCE) in July 2025, the new office’s activities have remained largely the same.

“The new name ‘better reflects the actual work that the Office has been undertaking since it was originally formed,’ the college said at the time.

“The college retained the office’s executive director and leadership team after the rebranding, as an archived page from April 2025 shows. All five members of the former DEI leadership team now appear on the OOCE website.”

Praxis means action against the enemy, and the enemy here is Young America’s Foundation and the action is malicious injury to property.

“Oklahoma State University student Jacob Avery recently pleaded guilty to malicious injury to property after vandalizing a Young America’s Foundation student tabling event.

“Avery received a six-month unsupervised deferred sentence, meaning the charge could be dismissed if he avoids further trouble during that period, though he must pay nearly $800 in legal fees, according to court documents.

“Jacob Avery, 28, disrupted the student tabling event last October, and was caught on video tossing paraphernalia into the air and onto the ground. After trashing the conservative group’s table, Avery told the students to ‘f**k off.’

“The tabling display which upset Avery included a large sign that read, ‘Marriage = 1 man + 1 woman.’”
