Obama Scandals

The Obama Scandal Bracket
One of the few things that interest Barack Obama, other than golf, is the annual NCAA basketball tournament bracket. So reader Brad Mirakian came up with the Obama Scandal Bracket. He did a good job of it too; he probably left off a scandal or two, but he also wisely left one blank for the scandal yet to come. Here it is. In comments, feel free to make your own observations about which is the worst of the Obama scandals, or which ones have the most potential to bring down the most corrupt administration within memory.

Gigantic Ocean Vortices Seen From Space Could Change Climate Models
The weather is a dance between an odd couple: the frantic atmosphere and the staid sea. The atmosphere changes quickly, as when a strong wind suddenly starts to blow or a cyclone careens ashore. The ocean seems more sedate. Its wide gyres trace the edges of continents, carrying sun-warmed water from the equator out towards the poles. Even the rough storms that terrorize sailors are more the sky’s fault than the sea’s. The waves that toss a ship are whipped up by the wind.

Long Invisible, Research Shows Volcanic CO2 Levels Are Staggering (Op-Ed)
The exploding hills really give the game away: We’ve always known the Earth is a smoker. The true extent of its habit, though, is only just beginning to surface.

Hobby Lobby Hobbyhorses
After reading the Twitter reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case, I began researching a post on what women could do now that corporations have exactly the same rights people do, including playing power forward for the Miami Heat, and now that contraception has been outlawed throughout these great United States. Then I read the decision and, to my surprise, found that it didn’t quite say any of that.

Libertarian Party: Hobby Lobby Not That Great a Victory After All
The Libertarian Party said that the 5-4 decision at the Supreme Court in favor of Hobby Lobby on the contraceptive mandate isn’t, in the grand scope of Obamacare, really that big of a deal.

Smart Take on Hobby Lobby Ruling: ‘Noncompliant females will be stripped of their burqas and stoned to death’
Have we ever seen so many people misinterpret such a simple issue? Look, we understand the left has to lie to get elected. We get it. But for crying out loud, the Supreme Court ruling Monday does not deny contraceptive coverage to women. How difficult is that to understand? The shrieking hysteria is just too much, and is now capped by this dunce from the New York Daily News.

Liberals’ Hobby Lobby Doublethink
If birth control is “not your boss’s business,” why do you expect him to pay for it?

New York Times Allows Anti-Catholic Hobby Lobby Ad
In The New York Times Thursday was a full-page ad that many will consider anti-Catholic.

Conestoga and Hobby Lobby—the Aftermath Begins
Lots of people have asked what happens next after yesterday’s Supreme Court decision in favor of religious freedom for Conestoga (my clients) and Hobby Lobby.

Fed-Up Californians Block Buses of Illegal Immigrants Being Shipped in from Texas
Angry protesters forced three buses carrying undocumented immigrants to turn around Tuesday in Southern California.

Why, yes, Valerie Jarrett does have a photo of herself being worshipped by figurines on her desk
Via the Blaze, I’m tempted to call this a palate cleanser but I think learning that Jarrett has a sense of humor about her enormous influence over Obama and the federal government actually comes closer to being news.

The Long Island Internet Blues
I discovered this obnoxious computer tic while calling up not some venomous cyberspace location but the Drudge Report. The site loaded, and then a kind of warning box like you wish would pop up repeatedly on your children’s laptops filled the screen informing me it had been determined that site had some questionable content and viewing it was verboten. The screen would go blank, and a kind of Orwellian corporate page would swim up from “Uniguest.” Then back to the opening menu.

At time of austerity, 8 universities spent top dollar on Hillary Rodham Clinton speeches
At least eight universities, including four public institutions, have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for Hillary Rodham Clinton to speak on their campuses over the past year, sparking a backlash from some student groups and teachers at a time of austerity in higher education.

Cracks Appearing In Democratic Coalition
The population of Mogadishu is moving to Minneapolis, through the miracle of chain immigration. I don’t know whether there is any limiting principle to this or whether all of Mogadishu will one day reside along the Mississippi, but in any event, the Somali influx is already impacting Minnesota politics.

Murietta: Activists clash as protesters try to blockade buses from bringing more illegal immigrants
Protesters who oppose arrivals of buses carrying largely women and children undocumented migrants for processing at the Murrieta Border Patrol Station and counter-demonstrators shove one another on July 4, 2014

Hispanic Growth Not Turning Texas Blue as Expected
The enormous growth of the Hispanic population does not seem to be turning Texas blue as fast as many political pundits expected. Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed a decreasing non-Hispanic white population and a rapidly growing Hispanic population. The growth of the Hispanic population over the past fourteen years was expected to make a huge difference in Texas’ Republican vs. Democrat voting patterns. It appears it has not.

Venezuelan Violence: Man Shot to Death During Surgery to Close Gunshot Wound
Venezuela’s two biggest problems–a socialist government that has left the population bereft of necessary goods and skyrocketing crime that has led to Venezuela having achieved the second-highest murder rate in the world–have long been considered unrelated. But what of a latest incident in which a man was shot to death in an operating room?

Sarkozy set to hit back over corruption charges
Nicolas Sarkozy was set Wednesday to break his silence over the corruption charges threatening to torpedo the former president’s hopes of a political comeback.

Green groups keep Aboriginal people in poverty
In 2009, the Bligh Labor government declared three major Cape York rivers as “wild rivers”. It was a politically motivated decision to secure Greens preferences in a close state election. It locked up major areas of Queensland’s far north making it impossible for traditional owners to pursue developments, including things like horticulture and tourism. It made a mockery of the Labor party’s support for land rights. Aboriginal people in Cape York had their land but, unlike every other landowner in Australia, weren’t allowed to prosper from it.

China’s Massive Female Abortions Tied to Violent Crime by Unmarried Males
China’s one-child policy, instituted in 1979, has made it the most gender-imbalanced country in the world, with 117.78 boys for every 100 girls. Since the Chinese culture traditionally favors males, massive numbers of female babies have been aborted.

The kids are then supposed to attach a post-it note to the book, warning other children about the book.

Gender Theory Madness: Gay Man Gets ‘Doxed’ Because of His ‘Transphobia’
In case you missed my posts over the weekend — “Tranarchy: Gender Theory = Insanity” and “Inmates Run the Facebook Asylum” — the long-running online war between transgender activists and radical lesbian feminists has been heating up lately. The two sides of the battle front are essentially this: Transactivists say it is “hate” to criticize them or refuse to participate in their pronoun-switching charades; radical dykes insist that, however fungible “gender” may be, feminism is still about the condition of women as a biologically determined category, which involves XX chromosomes, ovaries and so forth.

In Search of What You Resent
The Maliki government in Iraq fueled anti-Americanism as it systematically destroyed the coalition government that the Americans had created and protected by the surge. Maliki, who had once been hunted by the genocidal Saddam Hussein, in a sense was a creation of the United States and its commitment to consensual government in Iraq. So was the pluralistic idea of a Shiite majority for the first time gaining ascendency on the principle of one person, one vote — and through the blood and treasure of American soldiers during the surge. No foreign leader in recent memory has been so lucky to have an American patron.

Why George Takei Is An Idiot
Clueless Democrats — sorry for the redundancy there — are passing this meme around on social media and saying how great and insightful it is.

The Declaration of Independence annotated
When reading the Declaration, it is worth keeping in mind two very important facts. The Declaration constituted high treason against the Crown and every person who signed it would be executed as traitors should they be caught by the British. Second, the Declaration was considered to be a legal document by which the revolutionaries justified their actions, and explained why they were not truly traitors. It represented, as it were, a literal indictment of the Crown and Parliament, in the very same way that criminals are now publicly indicted for their alleged crimes by grand juries representing “the People.”

Liberty: the road not taken
The Left’s cherished new idea is that if someone doesn’t give you something for “free,” such as birth control, they are “denying your access” to it. That’s clearly absurd on the most basic common sense level, the kind of thinking a reasonably clever child would shred in a matter of moments, but it’s becoming something like a religious imperative for liberals – a new commandment written into the holy book of collectivism.

Gender Theory: Beyond Parody
Breanna Fahs is a feminist, but you probably already guessed that, right?

Is Administrative Law Unlawful?
[W]hen granting legislative power, the Constitution speaks of all legislative powers. It recites: “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States.” The Constitution authorizes no inferior legislative bodies, and the Constitution therefore can be explicit that Congress enjoys all legislative powers. Thus, for example, although the president can subdelegate some executive power to his subordinates, Congress cannot subdelegate any of its legislative powers, for they all rest in Congress.
