Quick Takes – Medical Sanity: Trans Surgery Ban For Kids; Uncensored Doctor; Holding The NHS Acccountable

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Medical insanity is difficult to cure, but ya gotta fight anyway.

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Mutilating and hopping kids on hormones is often declared to be a fundamental human right… but soon not any more in the U.K.

“Here’s some potentially good news to share today and for once it has nothing to do with the you-know-what story that’s drowning the news cycle. Across the pond in Great Britain, the other half of our special relationship has announced a change to their medical system that’s making the United States look pretty bad by comparison. The Brits have been dealing with their own wave of transgender unrest just as we have in America. But going forward, they’re not going to allow doctors to perform ‘transitional’ (and irreversible) ‘gender correction’ surgery on children. How surprisingly sane of them.”

Meanwhile, in South Africa, a doctor tried to encourage a women to not terminate her pregnancy. He was charged with medical misconduct. Thankfully two of the four ridiculous charges were dropped.

“A South African council reduced charges this week against a pro-life doctor who is being prosecuted for telling a pregnant woman that life begins at conception.

“Jacque de Vos, 32, was finishing his medical training in 2016 when the Health Professions Council of South Africa charged him with medical misconduct for trying to dissuade a pregnant woman from aborting her 19-week unborn baby.

“IOL reports the Health Professions Council dropped two of the four charges against de Vos this week. One charge alleged that de Vos distributed information that imposed his religious beliefs on patients and colleagues, and the second alleged that he was not objective in his recommendations about contraception, according to the report.

“Two charges remain, and his hearing is scheduled to continue on Monday. The doctor still is being prosecuted for allegedly trying to dissuade a patient from having an abortion and failing to respect a patient’s bodily autonomy, the report continues.”

At least one victim of being tricked into “transitioning” is fighting back in court.

“This isn’t the first time this has happened and I highly doubt it will be the last. A woman in London named Keira Bell has brought a lawsuit against a National Health Service (NHS) ‘gender clinic’ for allowing her to ‘transition’ to being a male when she was an underage teenager. She now regrets the decision and says that the staff at the clinic ‘should have challenged her more’ before allowing her to undergo the various treatments she received. One judge reviewed the request and the clinic’s efforts to have it dismissed and is allowing the case to move forward.”

Anti-Credential Intelligentsia

Your humble author has often challenged supposed “experts” who put ideology above discipline. However, these attacks have been first and foremost upon factual inaccuracy and ideological warping and mischaracterization of facts. The belittlement of their claims to being right due to credentialing is an attack on the idea that a mere credential, per se, bestows any magical ability to always be right or that lack of a credential indicates the opposite.

However, some seem to take the flip version of this claim as gospel truth, with the Coronavirus (AKA Corona-chan AKA the Wuhan Bat Soup Death Plague ChiCom Bio-Weapon of Doom*) Such is the case with a recent opinion piece be author Sarah Hoyt in which she not only peddles inaccurate information, but expresses a broad anti-credential bias. ‘Tis worth a fisking.

A fisking! A fisking!

“Someday 2020 will be behind us, and we’ll tell our kids and grandkids about the year we were smitten by the plague.

“By which I don’t mean COVID-19, which is at best a nasty disease with death tolls the equivalent of a bad flu year – if we accept the numbers we’re being fed by an establishment desperate to cash in on the cash bonus for each COVID-19 diagnosis – but the plague that has laid this country low, destroyed our economy and brought us to a place that no external enemy could have brought: this plague of experts.”

Aside from the obvious sarcasm of the opening sentance/paragraph, the opinion piece starts out with a well discredited lie: That the Coronavirus is just the flu, assuming that that social distancing made no difference in limiting the disease, thus resulting in experts who are destroying the economy out of either stupidity or malevolence.

“Or perhaps I should say “experts” since most of them have behind them only a long string of failed prognostications, followed by promotion within the “civil servant” echelons.

“Yes, I am talking about Doctors Birx and Fauci. I’m already seeing people pointing fingers at the president and complaining that he’s relied too much on these ‘experts.’”

Except many of these models were indeed fairly accurate for what limited information we have, with the claims that these models were false due to sinecured idological idiots or evil scientists being based on either inability to understand scientific literature and predictive modeling, or willful ignorance.

Firing Line Friday: What Should Our China Policy Be?

In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.

With China in the spotlight, not just as the source of the Corona Virus, but for the Chinese Communist Party’s obfuscating the pandemic, we are asking the same fundamental question we’ve been asking for decades: What should our China policy be? Mr. Buckley discusses this with Theodore Harold White.

Quick Takes – Woke Wars: No Male Artists; Protected Vegan Beliefs; No LGBT Right To Your Kid

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Mother Government may I or may I not?

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Apparently art is a tool of the Patriarchy, and the only way to fight it is to use public funds to buy only art by women!

“If you’ve been wanting to appreciate art lately but’ve been deterred by the genitals of people creating it, take heart: In order to fight the patriarchy, the Baltimore Museum of Art has made a promise — in 2020, they will refuse to purchase any composition if it was made by a guy.

“That’s right: If you’re a male artist, your masterpiece won’t be welcome.”

Firing Line Friday: The Meaning of China

In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.

With China in the spotlight, not just as the source of the Corona Virus, but for the Chinese Communist Party’s obfuscating the pandemic, we ask as we asked nearly a half a century ago, just what the meaning of China? Mr. Buckley discusses this question with Ross Terrill.

Quick Takes – Obey: Use The Pronouns; Transgender Lesbians; Mandatory Homosexuality

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Freedom means you have the right to be forced to comply!

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Apparently wokeness triumphs over the 1st Amendment.

“‘Dr. Meriwether has always used the titles and pronouns that refer to a student’s biological gender. Dr. Meriwether has never knowingly used feminine titles and pronouns to refer to men or masculine titles and pronouns to refer to women. Dr. Meriwether refers to students in this fashion to foster an atmosphere of seriousness and mutual respect that is befitting the college classroom,’ the suit adds.

“Meriwether told Milliken he could call Bruening by his name like all his other students, but ‘was not willing to refer to Bruening as a woman.’

“The college then launched an investigation, which concluded that Meriwether had broken the school’s ‘nondiscriminatory policy’ and had ‘created a hostile environment for Bruening.’ The warning was officially issued June 22.

“The conservative legal nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit in November 2018 against Shawnee State U for ‘punishing’ Meriwether in ‘expressing views that differ from its own orthodoxy and for declining to express its mandated ideological message.’

“Judge Susan Dlott of the U.S District Court sided with SSU on February 12, saying Meriwether ‘was not protected under the First Amendment.’”
