Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.
The focus this time: Up the cis-hetero-patriarchy and stuff!!1!
First, a little mood music:
Carrying on…
Because the Left already believes biological sciences are cis-hetero-normative patriarchal evil, the objective reality of engineering and the physical sciences are, to them, obviously an insidious plot too.
“Having all but ruined humanities education, the Social Justice Warriors now turn to the STEM fields. Purdue University has hired Donna Riley as its new head of its School of Engineering Education.”
This isn’t about better engineering or discovering anything in the physical sciences. This is all just a tool to “decenter” Western Civilization. For example:
“In order to decenter the male hegemony of the Western civilization, Riley discussed examples of thermodynamic inventions done by non-Western and non-male inventors. Also, some of the assignments required students to make interracial and intercultural connections in thermodynamics.”
Apparently making mistakes is something to be normalized and made acceptable:
“By normalizing mistakes in the process of learning, Riley fostered a classroom environment in which students were comfortable attempting problems (sometimes even on the black board) in class and learning from their mistakes. Another strategy used by her for normalizing mistakes was acknowledging when she herself did not know something.”
Um, if you make mistakes in engineering, and most of the physical sciences, THINGS BLOW UP, FALL APART, AND/OR KILL PEOPLE. This is not something that ought to ever be considered “normal”.
But hey, human life means nothing compared to stopping this horror of “allow[ing] implicit bias to seep in and saturate everything we do, because that which is male, straight, white, able-bodied, monied, is not left behind in the practice of science and engineering – it is just so normative that lots of us don’t notice.”
Assuming the “woke” and “socially just” engineered planes don’t fall from the sky, at least we can focus in on how “transgender” individuals are more oppressed by TSA groping than everyone else…
“‘Every time transgender people navigate airport security they risk being demeaned and humiliated. While the Transportation Security Administration has taken steps to better protect the privacy of transgender passengers, there is a long way to go,’ David Stacy, government affairs director for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), said in a written statement. ‘More invasive pat downs are a dangerous step in the wrong direction.'”
Because its not a big deal when it happens to those darn cis-normative oppressors, amirite?
Don’t take the plane? You can still find “wokeness” by feminized crosswalk signals:
“A push to include female symbols on traffic signals in an Australian city to fight discrimination against women has left public opinion divided.
“In an effort to fight ‘unconscious bias’ and ‘stereotypes’ in Melbourne, ten skirt-clad traffic icons were being installed on Tuesday, the day before International Women’s Day”
Every step you take, every breath you make, they’ll be enwokening you!
TTFN.
