This marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War, which had inaccurately been deemed the “war to end all wars.”
Four years after it began, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent.
Though begun as “Armistice Day,” Veterans Day has expanded in the United States as a day for all those brave men and women who fight to keep us free.
Requiescat in pace.
My Grandpa fought in WWI. After the was, he came home and ran the family farm. He also joined the American Legion, and was active in his community. When he died, the Legion gave my mother the flag that was on his coffin. I have it now, in a special display case.
Thanks for posting this today.
