Quick Takes – Nature Rights: Forest Rights At The WEF; Nature vs. Lithium; Ecological Constitutional Rejection

Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.

The focus this time: Mother Nature sure is contentious by proxy

     First, a little mood music:

     Carrying on…

Nothing makes you more certain that environmentalism is anti-human as nature rights for forests being championed by the World Economic Forum.

“We must reshape the relationship between capitalism and life itself. A groundbreaking concept is emerging — bestowing legal personality upon forests, enabling them to act as legal persons in global discourse. . . . This approach can guide us toward a renewed dialogue. Our forests are not mere resources but as representatives demanding their rightful voice.”

Huge lithium deposits found that would free the U.S. from foreign dependency? Can’t have that, can we?

“You can count on environmental extremists to do whatever they can to impede the mining and refining of lithium.

“For example, many in the ‘nature rights’ movement consider the earth to be a living being and seek to protect ‘Gaia’ from harm. Even nature rightists who don’t accept such neopaganistic mysticism want to grant ‘rights’ to nature — including geological features — to ‘exist and persist’ to prevent large resource extraction projects.

“Their goal is to unleash widespread lawfare by granting legal standing to anyone and everyone who believes that a given project is violating nature’s ‘rights’ and to thwart the effort through litigation. That approach has already shuttered two copper mining projects — one in Panama and the other in Ecuador — after those countries adopted nature rights laws.

“Meanwhile, the ‘ecocide’ movement seeks to criminalize large-scale mining and energy extractions — such as the Alberta tar sands — as the ‘fifth crime against peace.’ This kind of huge extraction project would seem to fit squarely into their indictment.”

In a moment of sanity, Swiss voters decided to enshrine Gaia and their Goddess of Law.

“Swiss voters on Sunday firmly rejected a referendum proposal put forward by green politicians to enshrine respect for the planet’s natural resources into the constitution.

“Some 70 percent of those who cast their ballots voted no to the measure, according to an official preliminary count.

“A summary of the referendum said that natural resources such as water, soil and air were often used in Switzerland and abroad to such an extent “that they are unable to recover”.

“‘The Environmental Responsibility Initiative requires that economic activities do not consume more resources and release more pollutants than is permitted for the preservation of natural resources,’ it said, setting a 10-year deadline.

“The text did not give any details on how the shift would be implemented, such as regulations, bans or incentives, but said that “due to the short time limit, radical measures are likely to be required”.

“In line with earlier predictions of a solid majority against the ‘no’ vote won in all cantons.”
