In the hopes of encouraging a more civil, and illuminating, discourse, here is another episode of William F. Buckley, Jr.’s “Firing Line”.
Far too often, the response to Progressive intellectuals is an anti-intellectualism that, rather than fight those intellectuals, conceded academia and other such institutions. Perhaps opposing Progressive intellectuals does not mean one has to surrender a more conservative intellectual vein of thought, as seen by Buckley debating the Noam Chomsky.
Another “quick takes” on items where there is too little to say to make a complete article, but is still important enough to comment on.
The focus this time: Eat the rich… literally.

Dissent can not be allowed, it is well known to Leftists, but even intermingling with the “other” is to be eschewed…
“American University has created a space for students of different identities to come together and foster a sense of community, but some students recently complained it’s too inclusive.
“The room, known as the Hub for Organizing Multiculturalism and Equity, or HOME, opened in November 2017 in the wake of alleged hate crimes against black students.
“More recently, a feature in The Eagle campus newspaper on the 1-year-old room detailed how some students are frustrated that officials allow students of any ethnicity to use it, rather than only students of color, and also that ‘several students said they viewed HOME as a response to their request for a black house.”
Of course something ought to be done…
There has been talk of engineering primates to be more human like, with an interest in creating such hybrids going back to the days of Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov. And now, the first actual steps towards this have been scientifically achieved.
“A group of monkeys were found to have “human-like” brain development, including faster reactions and better memories, after a joint Sino-American team of researchers spliced a human gene into their genetic makeup.
“Researchers from the Kunming Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the University of North Carolina in the United States modified the genes of 11 monkeys (eight first-generation and three second-generation) with the addition of copies of the human gene MCPH1.
“Microcephalin (MCPH1) is a key factor in our brain development and, in particular, eventual brain size. Mutations in the gene can lead to the developmental disorder microcephaly, which is characterized by a tiny brain.”
Obviously, in order to make kemonomimi girls, including catgirls of course, fit for domestic ownership, it is necessary that they have an intelligence level above that of a Kzinrretti.
There is little doubt that when healthcare becomes “free” and thus rationed, non-medically necessary procedures, like abortions and so-called “gender conforming” operations/hormone treatments would get preference over kids dying of cancer.
Now, however, they can kill two birds with one stone:
“[A] group of parents united in concern about transgender identity being pushed on children, released a heartbreaking video of a father whose son may lose his battle with cancer thanks in part to a reckless diagnosis of gender dysphoria (the persistent condition of identifying with the gender opposite one’s biological sex) and rushed hormone ‘treatments.'”
That’s right, you may die, but at least you can get your body mutilated and jacked up on hormones in order to pretend to be the other sex. Ironic, then, that we are told that small children must be allowed to “transition” lest their lives be put at risk!
“‘Aside from whether or not my son is transgender, these hormones are certainly hastening his demise,’ the father adds.
“In researching the transgender issue, he ‘learned that there’s no real research to support putting a young man like my son on hormones, that there’s no consideration for his health risk, and that there’s no protocol to diagnose this and no attention paid to the underlying issues like trauma. The counselors cite that there’s no way to evaluate whether a person is transgender. It’s just if they think they are, you have to go along with that, which doesn’t make sense to me.’
“The reckless pursuit of transgender identity can cost lives. Many former transgender people have regretted their cross-sex identity, returning to their biological sex and lamenting the permanent scarring they received from hormones and surgery. Yet the direct and immediate threat to a boy’s life due to transgender ‘treatments’ is horrifyingly new.”
Chavez and then Maduro claimed, in large part, to be liberating the Venezuelan people. They’ve certainly succeeded in “liberating” them from peace and prosperity. Why they even used the vaunted Cuban healthcare system to “liberate” them from their own health and well being. And such ecological wonder of wonders, they even “liberated” Venezuelans from the modern scourge of… electricity.
This leave Maduro the time and resources to go after the real enemy: Comedians. Also, the freedom to crush anyone who dares challenge him for power and authority.
Why, Maduro’s regime is even popular with such internationally fashionable leaders as… Vladimir Putin, who is helping to spread the love/troops necessary win the hearts and minds bullet-riddled-guts of not only the Venezuelan people, but of Venezuela’s neighbors as well.

Though ‘Frisco gets the bad rap for feces paved sidewalks and other vectors of a myriad of diseases, Los Angeles is facing quite a problem of rat spread diseases such as typhus. But wouldn’t the woke and government enlightened city be able to take care of rats and mere trash? No.
“For months rat-infested trash has been piling up on Ceres Avenue, a street that connects downtown LA’s bustling produce and garment districts. Now, health officials say accumulations of trash like this could be a cause of an outbreak of the bacterial disease typhus.”
The rights of the homeless, in part, seem to be of some blame since the right of the homeless trump the rights of Angelenos to not die of typhus…
“‘LAPD cops stationed near downtown LA’s Skid Row now work in fear of becoming the newest victims of the county’s growing typhus epidemic'”
How bad is it? The rats are not just plaguing the homeless, or even the hoi polloi, but the City Hall itself!
“The first clue Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson had that rats were invading City Hall, possibly carrying a potentially deadly disease, was the pitter-patter of little feet.
“‘We had an employee or two mention they heard something in the ceiling,’ Wesson said Thursday as he led a tour through his office, where he recently had all the rugs ripped out. ‘Then we had an employee spot what she believed to be paw prints.’
“After a flea hidden in a rug pounced on one of his employees late last year, Wesson had enough: He shut down the office and had all the rugs removed.”
It is integral to the Progressive Left’s view that everything is not only racist, but created by White people in order to oppress people is some nefarious scheme of oppressive oppressiveness. Case in point: “White people own time“.
“[T] he more generous thing that I can say is that part of what exposing these operations of time should allow us to think about is that we don’t all have the same timescapes. And so if you’re white in the U.S. context, typically you’re taught that time is linear, that every day is a progression beyond the past, that we are not today where we were 50 years ago.
“But if you are African-American in this country, time doesn’t exactly work that way.”

This is just an extension of how non-White people have special “ways of knowing” that justifies rejected objective reality. But then, this sounds more like sheer mental illness rather more than anything else.
“And it reminds me of the ways that past and presents and futures seemingly coexist for African-American folks. And so in that way, time doesn’t feel linear. It feels like the past, you know, past narratives of race that are rooted in violence and rooted in a lack of freedom. They feel like they can become our reality again at any moment.”
Of course, anyone could experience the same thing if they shoved enough acid tabs in their mouth…
When healthcare is a “right”, we are told, no one will be turned away from treatment because of lack of ability to pay before getting treatment. This, of course is true… however, far too many assume that this “free healthcare” somehow means that they will get the treatment at all; in fact, all it means is that people are not turned away due to lack of co-pay, but due to rationing.
“Thousands of elderly people in Britain are left to go blind because of rationing of eye surgery in the National Health Service (NHS), a report revealed on Saturday (April 6).
“The Times newspaper said a survey by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCO) found tens of thousands of elderly people are left struggling to see because of an NHS cost-cutting drive that relies on them dying before they can qualify for cataract surgery.
“The survey has found that the NHS has ignored instructions to end cataract treatment rationing in defiance of official guidance two years ago.”
The big selling point of socialized medicine is that one either doesn’t have to pay at all, or that they don’t have to pay upfront (pre-paying in taxes OTOH…). But the truth is that going blind because you can’t afford eye surgery or insurance is just as inexpensive as having “free” government run healthcare and going blind because you got the short end of the stick with rationing.
At least with more market oriented healthcare, you at least have the option of going into debt to save your eyesight.
